Tofino Surf Adventures Crew
Estuardo was a fish in his last life, which is probably why it is so hard for us to keep him on dry land. Originally from Guatemala (100% chapin), with a few stops along the way, Estuardo ended up in Vancouver in 1992. He essentially grew up in the water as a competitive swimmer and water polo player. He has over 20yrs of coaching and instructing experience and is a certified Level 1 coach.
After spending time traveling to all corners of the world, Estuardo first encountered surfing while backpacking throughout Southern Africa in the 2000-2001 winter. Over the next several years and a few more travel adventures, his passion for surfing grew. After working as a tour guide for Moose Travel Network, bringing groups of adventurous backpackers to the wild West Coast, he fell in love with the town of Tofino. In 2005, he packed up all his belongings, a surfboard and a bmx bike, made the move to Tofino and hasn't looked back since.
Antonio loves surfing, teaching and especially… teaching people to surf! He spent his budding adult years as a programmer in an office in downtown Toronto hunched over, staring at a computer screen. Unsatisfied with his stasis, he longed to shred the glassy waves like the ones in the Surfer mags he gawked over routinely. Thus inspired, he traveled to Costa Rica in 2009 to learn the art of surfing. It was the beginning of an obsession that took him on surf trips to the Dominican, Hawaii and Tofino. The only issue was that it always felt like the dream ended too quickly as his home and job awaited him in the concrete jungle of Toronto. To keep his stoke alive, he met a motley crew of likeminded insane surfers who got their jollies chasing waves in the frigid, windy waters of Lake Ontario. As fun as it was surfing at lunch break, mid-February, when there was no one out in the lineup other than boulders of ice, he wanted to live and breathe it every day. So he left his life and family in Toronto, with one suitcase, no idea where he would live or work, but with the certainty that he was frothing to surf and followed the call of the crashing waves to the West Coast. Upon arrival, he purchased an immaculately maintained minivan from a pair of Germans and let out a massive YEOW!!! The torch was passed and he had found his dream home!
Antonio is the most patient, encouraging instructor you will meet. He wants only to turn his students into frothing surf machines just like him. Give him a try, he guarantees he will change your life.
Alina hails from the icy tundra-lands of Russia and Ottawa – an origin that rapidly prompted her to move to California for school, followed by Hawaii, in search of good surf, sunny days and a life spent surrounded by the ocean. During the winter, Alina works on her tan by working as a maritime lifeguard and first mate on boats in Hawaii and fuels her adrenaline addiction by surfing the big waves on Oahu’s North Shore. During the summer, Alina migrates north to Tofino to lose her new found tan and get in touch with her cold water roots while teaching surf lessons and working at implementing an oceanfront lifeguarding program on the beautiful beaches up here.
Easily identifiable by her sunburnt nose, her constant proximity to salty water, as well as by her loud cheers of cheeeeeehooo! As she watches her surf students catching waves, Alina is a sunny ball of energy. Prepare your ears, as she will chat them off (in English, French, Russian and Spanish), and prepare yourselves for a fun and vigorous surf session. See you in the ocean!
